Choo Choo... Look Who's Two!

I cannot believe that my little baby is already two! My how time flies. We/I decided to throw him a Thomas train-themed party since he has been obsessed with trains since December. I posted some pictures and descriptions of games and other fun things for those who were unable to make it, hopefully next time!

Warning: He is our only child as of yet, so there are many pictures and I got a little carried away writing!!!

We started things off with a little lunch (thank goodness for Costco) while waiting for all the guests to arrive. Once everyone finished lunch we began the games. Mason has alot of older cousins so I wanted to make it fun for them too. Since he is not very old, I just took a few simple party games and put a Thomas spin on them. If you have seen any of the Thomas movies or read the books then these games make more sense.

I told the kids that Percy and James have been very useful engines so they deserve a new coat of paint. The kids got one plastic garbage bag smocks, a little cup of paint with a brush and painted away!







After they where done, Percy and James looked splendid with their new coats of paint!





Uh Oh Cranky!



The next game I told the kids that Cranky the Crane was feeling cranky (even though he is smiling!) because he dropped some packages he was unloading into the water. He needed their help to fish them out. For the older kids, the first time they fished they got a cartoon fish or something silly just for fun. I let them go again, and everyone got to fish out a package. The package was from Sir Topham Hatt, Tidmouth Station, Island of Sodor and addressed to A Very Useful Helper, Mason's Birthday Party, Salt Lake City, UT with a little stamp in the corner and lines through it. Inside the package was a red bandana and conductor's hat.

Oh No Toby and the Troublesome Truck!



The last game, I told the kids that Toby was having trouble because the naughty Troublsome Truck spilled coal all over the ground. I asked them if they could help Toby out and toss the coal back into the truck. Poor Sarah, who was helping with this game, got attacked with flying coal...luckily it wasn't real coal.







All the kids had fun playing, and I think that was just about the right amount to keep them all entertained. Now came time for cake and ice cream...da da da dum.... I was going to attempt to do a full Thomas train, but as the days grew closer I decided to make a smaller, simpler cake and some cupcakes for the kids since I found some little train rings to go on top. When I was making the cake the day before Mason kept saying "Mason's Thomas birthday cake!" It made me feel good that he at least knew what I was trying to make.





Well Mason is pretty afraid of candles and fire, a good things a guess, so he didn't blow out the candles, his cousin Jaden did it for him. I think the cupcakes were a hit with the kids because they were all calling out wich train they wanted. Here is Mason about to enjoy a Percy cupcake... unfortunetly Percy was not edible!



Yay for presents!!!







Mason got lots of fun things for his birthday; books, Thomas dishware, pajamas, trucks and cars, trains, sandbox toys, and a nice new tricycle! Well, that pretty much wraps up the party. It was fun to have family and friends come and share Mason's 2nd birthday with us. I am already looking forward to numder 3! Just kidding, I need to give myself a break for at least one month. As the guests were leaving, the kids got goody boxes that looked like cabooses being pulled by Thomas. Inside the boxes were Thomas stickers, a wooden train wistle, a toy Thomas pocket watch, a container of play dough, and a train cookie cutter.

It was a long afternoon for the little guy, he crashed shortly after we got everytihng cleaned up. It sure is hard turning two...



There was alot of work preparing for it and I have to thank my mom, David's parents, and his sister, Sarah, for their help with it all. Really the only problem that day was the blasted wind kept ruining some of the decorations so some of the things didn't turn out quite as I had in mind (as many of you know I have anal birthday issues), but all together the party turned out really well and everyone had a good time!
