Workout Buddies

Every time that David goes to exercise Mason wants to join him. He sits next to him and tries to copy everything he does. It is so funny. So we went and bought Mason his own mini Medicine Ball (Mason calls it a "too heavy ball") so he could be just like his daddy. Here is some of their usual workout:

Monster Bus!

Last week we went to go get some pizza and saw this HUGE bus on the side of the road. Of course you can imagine Mason's excitement, so we pulled in to get a better look. Now when I say Monster Bus I am not exaggerating:





They were giving rides for donations to Primary Children's Hospital, so we decided that we would go for a spin. I thought that they would just drive around in circles (like you do on the drivers-ed course) but it was more like doing doughnuts in the winter time. It was really bumpy and really fast, I might have gotten a little whip-lash. David really enjoyed it, more than me and Mason at least. Mason just sat there with his serious look and occasionally said "Whoa!" But it was pretty cool and a great way to make donations.

O Canada!

David spent the last week in Vancouver for work. He didn't have the camera with him to take any pictures, but he said that it was really big and really pretty. Everything was so green, and he even got to see some of the vessels that he works with. I found a picture on the Internet that will give you an example of what it looked like to him:



Welcome Home Daddy!!! We missed you very much and are so glad that your is back! He also brought back some fun souvenirs for me and Mason:

Don't worry, its actually an energy drink! But David couldn't resist, need I say more...

Oh yeah, he also brought home some gum that actually tastes like SOAP! So if he offers you a piece of purple gum and says that it is yummy, BEWARE!!!

State Fair Cake

Last year when me and my mother went to the Utah State Fair we noticed that they had a wedding cake competition. It intrigued me. We talked had about it on and off for awhile to decide on whether I should enter it are not the following year. Well, as the time grew closer, I was still not sure if I wanted to do it, but my mom was more persistent. She said to just do it for fun, and see how it goes. So I finally decided "what the heck" lets give it a try. I wanted to do something simple and fun, but also elegant. So I came up with a design that I pulled from a couple of different cake that I liked. It's not much, but I love it. I call it "Bridal Gown"



I covered all three tiers with fondant, and then did some fondant draping on the bottom tier to kind on make it look like the bottom of a flowing wedding dress. I painted it with pearl luster dust to give it a little something extra. Then I did some burgundy lacing down the top two tiers (kind of a corset look) and finished it off with a bow. Since it was going to have to sit at the fair for a a week or so, I decided to use silk flowers instead of real ones. I made the cake Red Velet, so when they cut into it to taste it, it had the same burgundy red to accent the rest of the cake.

My mom was supportive and came with me to drop it off at the fair grounds. There were about five others wedding cakes there. I didn't get a good look at them, but there were a couple of really nice ones as well. The ladies there told me that they would be judging them later that day, and the earliest I could find out would be the day the fair started. This is the first time I have entered any kind of wedding cake conteset so I was a little nervous, but I tried not to think about it the best I could.



Mason and I went to the fair the next day with Brandon and Alex. I was a little anxious to see how I did. To my surprise I got First Place! I was totally surprised! I figured that I would probably place second or third, by the quick glance I got of the other entries, so I was really excited. It was alot of fun and I really did enjoy doing it, however, I don't think I will enter it again next year. I just have to thank my mom for always pushing me to work on improving my skills and getting me to try new things. Thanks Mom, I love you!
